At ETH Zurich, students discover an ideal environment for independent thinking. Situated in the heart of Europe, yet forging connections all over the world, ETH Zurich is pioneering effective solutions to the global challenges of today and tomorrow. With its nearly 400,000 inhabitants, Zürich is the largest city in Switzerland. While Bern is the political capital, Zürich is considered the business capital. Formerly an industrial town, the focus is shifting to commercial business. With its theaters, concert halls, museums, art galleries, libraries and book shops, Zürich is also a center of cultural importance.

WISPers met with women in leadership in science including Dr. Allen-Petersen, Dr. Flesch, Dr. Swanson and Renee Thomas from the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging. Our cohort learned to continue seeking out leadership opportunities at all stages of their professional lives and to be comfortable with being a minority in number as a female leader striving for excellence.  Additionally, they understood the importance of having people around them for support, yet also hold them accountable. After, WISPers were celebrated for their active participation this year.

The Office of Student Conduct Helps Students Build Grit - Student Discussion and Dialogue.
Thursday, April 14, 2022 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The Steps to Leaps Grit pillar speaks to the fact that some students stumble and fall from time to time. Our goal in supporting students is to help them build skills to pick themselves up and hopefully learn from their stumble. Student Conduct plays a large role in teaching students about the tools you need to pick yourself up. Staff in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and staff in University Residences are educators first. Come learn about the ways they work with students on Purdue's campus.

Experiential Education Scholarship
The Office of ExEd has developed a new scholarship opportunity for students participating in experiential education!

Student must be participating in an experiential education opportunity offered by Purdue University. Experiential education is defined as a planned pedagogy centering on an authentic experience to strengthen students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities, paired with student reflection. Common examples of experiential education include internships/co-ops, clinical placements and other field-based experiences, service-learning, projects with community/industry partners, study away/abroad, and undergraduate research.

To qualify, students must be a Purdue West Lafayette undergraduate or Pharm D student, in good academic standing, enrolled full-time or part-time, and meet the financial aid citizenship requirements. Scholarships can be awarded in amounts of up to $2000. The amount awarded may vary depending on the type of experiential education opportunity and expenses related to the experience.

Scholarships are merit-based, and these funds are intended to supplement other scholarship funds or a student’s own personal funds. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. To qualify, applications must be submitted by the appropriate due date as listed below:

  • For summer funds, applications are due by April 15
  • For fall funds, applications are due by June 1
  • For spring funds, applications are due by November 1
More details about the scholarship and a link to the application can be found on the Office of Experiential Education website.

Consider Applying for a Fulbright: 2023-24 grant cycle starting now
Fulbright is a 9+ month post-bac program. The USA has partnered with 140+ nations to support 3 kinds of grants, the funds for these grants are split between the US Department of State and the Student’s Host Country. The first grant is the English Teaching Assistantship; grantees teach for roughly 20 hours a week, and the rest of their time is dedicated to cultural exchange. The second type of grant sponsors independent research projects completely customizable to the student experiences. The third and final type of grant can support students wishing to enroll in a master’s program from a university in another nation. Sometimes students are looking for a “gap-year” and Fulbright is the idea program as Fulbright is very well known across academia and acts as a career accelerator. Purdue students are competitive for this award and need to be encouraged to apply. The NISO office is available to help students with their Fulbright grant application. Make an appointment to speak with Michael Russell on Boilerconnect under Academic Success and Coaching / NISO / First Time Appointment / Michael.
